Studies on the liquid-liquid interfacial mass transfer process using holographic interferometry

摘要: This paper aims at the interfacial phenomena of liquid-liquid mass transfer and its characteristic. By using the real-time holographic technique, the concentration distributions on the aqueous side were obtained according to holographic diagrams of mass transfer of ethanol through the interface of oil and water at different initial concentrations. Furthermore, the concentrations near the interface and the mass transfer coefficients were attained. A correlation of concentration near the interface to the concentration of the solute in the oil side was proposed. An approach of interfacial energy with solute concentration was established, and the calculated results are at good agreement with the experimental data. It is indicated that the liquid-liquid mass transfer process is approximately in accordance with two-film theory, the interfacial performance may be changed by the addition of the solute, and the interface of liquid-liquid is non-equilibrium thermodynamically during the mass transfer process.

Analysis of the radiation heat transfer process of phase change for a liquid droplet radiator in space

摘要: The optimization of a space power system is greatly affected by the radiation heat transfer in a liquid droplet radiator (LDR). Radiation heat transfer in a two-dimensional bed of phase-change particle is modeled by solving the radiative transfer equation using the discrete ordinates method and the energy equation using the implicit finite difference method. The Mie theory is used to calculate the radiative properties of the droplet bed, whereas the effective medium theory is used to obtain the optical constants of partial solidification droplets. Multiple factors affect heat flux in the LDR, such as size distribution, flow velocity, phase change of droplets, layer thickness, droplet concentration in the layer, and material type of the work fluid; each of these must be analyzed. Calculations show that once size distribution is neglected, the relative error increases significantly. Size distribution has a remarkably strong effect on heat flux when the flow velocity of the working fluid is above 100 m/s. An increase in flow velocity leads to an increase in the total heat flux for the layer with a fixed volume fraction of droplets. The solidification zone occupies nearly half of the layer, and droplets of different sizes exhibit temperature differences to some extent due to local thermal non-equilibrium among them. Droplet concentration in the layer and the material type of the working fluid have strong effects on heat flux, whereas the thickness of the layer has a mild influence on heat flux.

Risk evaluation for the task transfer of an aircraft maintenance program based on a multielement connection

摘要: This paper proposes a framework for evaluating the efficacy and suitability of maintenance programs with a focus on quantitative risk assessment in the domain of aircraft maintenance task transfer. The analysis is anchored in the principles of Maintenance Steering Group-3 (MSG-3) logic decision paradigms. The paper advances a holistic risk assessment index architecture tailored for the task transfer of maintenance programs. Utilizing the analytic network process (ANP), the study quantifies the weight interrelationships among diverse variables, incorporating expert-elicited subjective weighting. A multielement connection number-based evaluative model is employed to characterize decision-specific data, thereby facilitating the quantification of task transfer-associated risk through the appraisal of set-pair potentials. Moreover, the paper conducts a temporal risk trend analysis founded on partial connection numbers of varying orders. This analytical construct serves to streamline the process of risk assessment pertinent to maintenance program task transfer. The empirical component of this research, exemplified through a case study of the Boeing 737NG aircraft maintenance program, corroborates the methodological robustness and pragmatic applicability of the proposed framework in the quantification and analysis of mission transfer risk.

Interfacial heat transfer coefficient between metal and die during high pressure die casting process

摘要: The present work focused on the determination of the interfacial heat transfer coefficient (IHTC) between metal and die during the high pressure die casting (HPDC) process. Experiments were carried out on an aluminum alloy, ADC12Z, using step shape casting so-called because of its shape. The IHTC was successfully determined by solving one of the inverse heat problems using the nonlinear estimation method first used by Beck. The calculation results indicated that the IHTC immediately increased after liquid metal was brought into the cavity by the plunger and decreased as the solidification process of the liquid metal proceeded. The liquid metal eventually solidified completely, a condition when the IHTC tended to be stable. Casting thickness played an important role in affecting the IHTC between the metal and die not only in terms of its value but also in terms of its change tendency. Also, under the test conditions, different change tendencies of the metal solid fraction were found between castings with different thicknesses and the die.

摘要:

由于数据驱动的过程监测方法具有普遍性,且不依赖反应机理,其已经成为复杂工业系统过程监测的主流。然而,大多数数据驱动的过程监测方法均假设历史训练数据和在线测试数据遵循相同的分布。事实上,由于工业系统恶劣的环境,从实际工业过程中收集的数据总是受到许多因素的影响,如多变的操作环境、原材料的变化和生产指标的修改。这些因素通常会使在线监测数据和历史训练数据分布不同,从而导致过程监测任务中的模型失配。因此,当将从训练数据中学习的模型应用于实际的在线监测时,很难实现精确的过程监测。为了解决操作环境变化导致的历史训练数据和在线测试数据之间的分布差异问题,提出了一种鲁棒的迁移字典学习(RTDL)算法用于工业过程监测。RTDL是表示学习和域自适应迁移学习的协同方法。该方法将历史训练数据和在线测试数据分别作为迁移学习问题的源域和目标域。然后将最大均值差异正则化和线性判别分析正则化引入字典学习框架,可以减少源域和目标域之间的分布差异。这样,即使源域和目标域的特征在实际变化的操作环境的干扰下明显不同,仍可以学习鲁棒的字典。这样的字典可以有效地提高过程监测和模态识别的性能。通过数值仿真和两个工业系统的实验验证了该方法的有效性和优越性。

Numerical investigation on side heat transfer enhancement in 300 kA aluminum reduction cell

摘要: Industrial test and numerical simulation were synchronously applied to analyze the side heat transfer process and enhance heat transfer in aluminum reduction cell. The 3D slice finite element model of aluminum reduction cell was developed, with which the sidewall temperature field of the cell was computed by using software ANSYS. The main influencing factors on heat dissipation were analyzed and some effective measures were proposed to enhance sidewall heat transfer. The results show that the shell temperature of the test cell and the common cell is respectively 312°C and 318°C and the ledge thickness is 16 cm and 15 cm when side coefficient of heat transfer between the shell and the surroundings is 70 W/(mK). With the increase of the side coefficient of heat transfer between the shell and the surroundings, the temperature of the shell decreases but the thickness of the side ledge increases when the electrolytic temperature, the ambient temperature, the coefficient of heat transfer between molten bath and ledge, the eutectic temperature and the thermo-resistance of the side lining are constant.

The role of single deformed bubble on porous foam tray with submerged orifices on the mass transfer enhancement

摘要: Foam trays with porous submerged orifices endow bubbles uniformly distributed, which are considered attractive column internals to enhance the gas-liquid mass transfer process. However, its irregular orifice and complex gas-liquid flow make it lack pore-scale investigations concerning the transfer mechanism of dynamic bubbling. In this work, the actual porous structure of the foam tray is obtained based on micro computed tomography technology. The shape, dynamic, and mass transfer of rising bubbles at porous orifices are investigated using the volume of fluid and continue surface force model. The results demonstrate that the liquid encroaching on the gas channels causes the increasing orifices velocity, which makes the trailing bubble easily detach from the midst of the leading bubble and causes pairing coalescence. Additionally, we found that the central breakup regimes significantly improve the gas-liquid interface area and mass transfer efficiency. This discovery exemplifies the mechanism of mass transfer intensification for foam trays and serves to promote its further development.

摘要: One of the problems that most afflicts humanity is the lack of clean water. Water stress, which is the pressure on the quantity and quality of water resources, exists in many places throughout the World. Desalination represents a valid solution to the scarcity of fresh water and several technologies are already well applied and successful (such as reverse osmosis), producing about 100 million m3·d−1 of fresh water. Further advances in the field of desalination can be provided by innovative processes such as membrane distillation. The latter is of particular interest for the treatment of waste currents from conventional desalination processes (for example the retentate of reverse osmosis) as it allows to desalt highly concentrated currents as it is not limited by concentration polarization phenomena. New perspectives have enhanced research activities and allowed a deeper understanding of mass and heat transport phenomena, membrane wetting, polarization phenomena and have encouraged the use of materials particularly suitable for membrane distillation applications. This work summarizes recent developments in the field of membrane distillation, studies for module length optimization, commercial membrane modules developed, recent patents and advancement of membrane material.

Dual-reaction-center catalytic process continues Fenton’s story

摘要: Abstract • Dual-reaction-center (DRC) system breaks through bottleneck of Fenton reaction. • Utilization of intrinsic electrons of pollutants is realized in DRC system. • DRC catalytic process well continues Fenton’s story. Triggered by global water quality safety issues, the research on wastewater treatment and water purification technology has been greatly developed in recent years. The Fenton technology is particularly powerful due to the rapid attack on pollutants by the generated hydroxyl radicals (•OH). However, both heterogeneous and homogeneous Fenton/Fenton-like technologies follow the classical reaction mechanism, which depends on the oxidation and reduction of the transition metal ions at single sites. So even after a century of development, this reaction still suffers from its inherent bottlenecks in practical application. In recent years, our group has been focusing on studying a novel heterogeneous Fenton catalytic process, and we developed the dual-reaction-center (DRC) system for the first time. In the DRC system, H2O2 and O2 can be efficiently reduced to reactive oxygen species (ROS) in electron-rich centers, while pollutants are captured and oxidized by the electron-deficient centers. The obtained electrons from pollutants are diverted to the electron-rich centers through bonding bridges. This process breaks through the classic Fenton mechanism, and improves the performance and efficiency of pollutant removal in a wide pH range. Here, we provide a brief overview of Fenton’s story and focus on combing the discovery and development of the DRC technology and mechanism in recent years. The construction of the DRC and its performance in the pollutant degradation and interfacial reaction process are described in detail. We look forward to bringing a new perspective to continue Fenton’s story through research and development of DRC technology.

Augmentation of natural convective heat transfer by acoustic cavitation

摘要: An experimental study was conducted to investigate the effects of acoustic cavitation on natural convective heat transfer from a horizontal circular tube. The experimental results indicated that heat transfer could be enhanced by acoustic cavitation and had the best effect when the head of the ultrasonic transducer was over the midpoint of the circular tube, and the distance between the head and the tube equaled 15 mm. The augmentation at low heat flux was better than that in the case of high heat flux. Based on experimental results, the correlation formula of Nusselt number for water was obtained.

Experimental study of heat transfer coefficient with rectangular baffle fin of solar air heater

摘要: This paper presents an experimental analysis of a single pass solar air collector with, and without using baffle fin. The heat transfer coefficient between the absorber plate and air can be considerably increased by using artificial roughness on the bottom plate and under the absorber plate of a solar air heater duct. An experimental study has been conducted to investigate the effect of roughness and operating parameters on heat transfer. The investigation has covered the range of Reynolds number from 1259 to 2517 depending on types of the configuration of the solar collectors. Based on the experimental data, values of Nusselt number have been determined for different values of configurations and operating parameters. To determine the enhancement in heat transfer and increment in thermal efficiency, the values of Nusselt have been compared with those of smooth duct under similar flow conditions.

Effect of heat transfer space non-uniformity of combustion chamber components on in-cylinder heat transfer

摘要: Combustion chamber components (cylinder head-cylinder liner-piston assembly-oil film) were treated as a coupled body. Based on the three-dimensional numerical simulation of the heat transfer of the coupled body, a coupled three-dimensional calculation model for the in-cylinder working process and the combustion chamber components was built with domain decomposition and boundary coupling method, which adopts the coupled three-dimensional simulation of in-cylinder working process and the combustion chamber components. The model was applied in the investigation of the influence of space non-uniformity in heat transfer among combustion chamber components on in-cylinder heat transfer. The results show that the effect of wall temperature space non-uniform distribution of combustion chamber components on heat transfer happens mainly at the end of the compression stroke and expansion stroke. Therefore, it can be concluded that wall temperature space non-uniform distribution of combustion chamber components would influence heat transfer during the intake and exhaust stroke obviously.

Heat transfer coefficient of wheel rim of large capacity steam turbines

摘要: A way of calculating the overall equivalent heat transfer coefficient of wheel rims of large capacity steam turbines is presented. The method and formula to calculate the mean forced convection heat-transfer coefficient of the surface of the blade and for the bottom wall of the blade passage, are introduced. The heat transmission from the blade to the rim was simplified by analogy to heat transmission in the fins. A fin heat transfer model was then used to calculate the equivalent heat transfer coefficient of the blade passage. The overall equivalent heat transfer coefficient of the wheel rim was then calculated using a cylindrical surface model. A practical calculation example was presented. The proposed method helps determine the heat transfer boundary conditions in finite element analyses of temperature and thermal stress fields of steam turbine rotors.
